Internship in Wildlife Population Health 2025-26
Overview
I graduated in veterinary medicine just the year before entering this internship. However, I have been getting closer to wildlife since almost my first year of the degree. My curiosity about wild animals, their habitat, their habits, behaviour and welfare both in freedom and in captivity made me join some associations related to wildlife.
Background
During my time at university, I attended lots of talks on different topics all related towildlife and organised by the veterinarian’s association for the assistance of exotic and wild fauna (AVAFES Barcelona), of which I was a member. Also, my interest in wildlife health and necropsies attracted me to collaborate with the ecopathology service of wildlife (SEFaS) at the same university. Moreover, I performed a teleanesthesia and blowpipe intensive course to feel capable of managing one by myself.
Besides, I like to spend part of my free time surrounded by wild animals, that’s why one summer I did volunteering in the Foundation Reserve Wild Forest, taking care of the alimentation and handling of various hunting species and acquiring some experience treating wounds and attending piglets. Later, I conducted a Summer School in Diseases of Marine Mammals, where I performed a necropsy of a dolphin. Finally, I carried out my curricular practices in the Barcelona zoo, where I loved being in contact with a wide range of species and learning a lot about veterinary clinic.
